6th Grade Field Trip to the Biltmore House!
6th grade is planning to take a grade level field trip to the Biltmore Estate in March of 2024. We want all families to know that the cost to attend is [TBD]. Any student in need of financial support is able to apply for up to $50 from the county and those forms will be sent home with students upon request. There will be a behavior element students must meet in order to go on the trip (1 mark or less). At this time we have no information regarding any need for chaperones or volunteers. This trip ties in with multiple areas of study - the gardens will be in bloom and we should be studying plant systems at that time. One of our guest speakers during our Professional Development day was Roberty Beatty, the author of the Seraphina novels which takes place at Biltmore. Biltmore House also played a pivotal role during the Great Depression in providing work for laborers. We are so excited about this trip!
Fall Festival & Title 1 Family Reading Night
Haunted Hallway, games galore, cake walk, tricks and treats! Books! Our spectacular fall festival will be held on Friday, Oct 27. More information to come! We are in need of donated items for our Silent Auction. If you would like to contribute or know of a business that would, pls let us know!
Back to School Bash School Dance!
Our first dance will be held on Fri, Sept 8th from 3:00 - 5:00! Admission is $5.00. We will be selling concessions so bring extra money. Parents/guardians, please make sure you are on time to pick up your child. There will be a long line of vehicles, so please be patient.
Brave Beginnings
WOW! We had such an awesome turnout last night! It was so wonderful to see all our students and meet their families. Again, I apologize for the technical issues that wouldn't allow my homeroom to meet in my classroom. I know it was frustrating being crammed into one classroom, but there was nothing that could be done, so I appreciate you all being kind about it. I am getting excited for our new school year and I'm pretty sure it's going to be GREAT!
Got Any Questions?
Hey there! If you have questions about GMS, starting 6th grade or about anything else you think I might be able to help with, please email me! I do have a section dedicated to incoming 6th graders and one for parents/guardians; so please make sure you read through those first. You might be able to find an answer to your question! But, if you don't, please email me at kmbraswell@caldwellschools.com.
Teacher Team
Mr. Gragg and I will be a teacher team again this year! YAY! He will be teaching Social Studies and Language Arts.
Homework Policy
Yes, you will have homework. You will have a weekly cumulative math review called "Weekly Work" usually consisting of ten math problems. You will get it on Monday, it will be due on Friday. You are urged to use your notes, classwork, tests/quizzes and other Weekly Works to help you complete this review. If you choose not to turn it in on Friday, you will lose 5 points for it being late. You may have other math homework if you don't get your classwork completed or if we need to get something accomplished so we can move on. You typically won't have science homework, unless you don't complete your work in class. Five points will be deducted for all homework/classwork turned in late. Late work will also be annotated as such in PowerSchool.
Brave Beginnings
This is an event just for our new Braves, our rising 6th graders and their parents/guardians! It will be held on Thursday, August 17th from 4:00 to 5:30. Sessions will begin at 4:00, so please don't be late! Students will get to come into school, meet their teachers and their new classmates. We will take a tour of the school, and provide information about what to expect in 6th grade. You will be able to check out your classrooms and may even be able to pick your seat in your homeroom! Parents/guardians, you will get to meet your child's teachers, pick up supply lists, learn about our PTO, get bus information and get answers to any questions you might have.
*If you don't already have a Parent PowerSchool account from elementary school, we will help you get one set up during this time. It is imperative that you have one so that you can log in and keep track of your child's academic progress through 6th grade.
See you there!
