Mrs. Smith

I began my career in education in 2004 working in special education as a one on one EC assistant. After a few years I decided to go back to school and get my degree in Middle Grades education with a concentration in Math and Science. After graduating from Appalachian State University, I made my way to Gamewell Middle School where I have been teaching since 2014. I truly enjoy my career as an educator and couldn't imagine doing anything else!
Favorite Educational Quote and Why
"Teaching kids to count is fine, but teaching them what counts is best!" - Bob Talbert
This quote truly reflects my own beliefs. I tell my students each and every year, it is only half my job to teach you math and science; the other half is to teach you to be a compassionate person which will take you further in life.
Why I Became An Educator
My desire to become an educator came to me a little later in life after I became a mother. It was then that I seen in my own children the value of a good education and the need for them to have that one teacher that would lead them in the right direction and leave an everlasting influence that they would value all their lives. I wanted to be that educator so I became that educator!
Favorite Place in Caldwell County
My favorite spot in Caldwell County that I go to daily is my own backyard! I enjoy gardening and putting my hands in the dirt! The personal experiences of watching the birds and hearing them sing, the fascinating "creepy crawlies" and the tall beautiful trees are the best ways to end any day! Whether it be spring, summer, fall or winter, there is always something there that draws me in.

My definition of fun is FAMILY, they are my greatest treasures in life. Any time with them makes me happy and fulfilled and we always have a great time! Holidays, birthdays or any other special occasion that brings us all together is what I truly enjoy most!
