Mrs. McQuaid

24 years total! I was a middle school English/Social Studies teacher for 8 years and also taught reading to adults at Western Piedmont Community College. After getting my Masters of Library Science degree in 2005, I was the Media Coordinator at Hunter Huss High School in Gastonia before luckily accepting the position at Gamewell Middle School. I've made this school my home for the past 15 years.

Favorite Educational Quote and Why
The poet Alfred Lord Tennyson said "Tis better to have loved and lost than never to have loved at all." This applies to education because I enjoy getting to know 6th graders when they first begin their Gamewell Middle School journey, and I find it bittersweet when they leave in 8th grade.  But fortunately, many of them come back to visit...sometimes to even be a teacher here!

Why I Became An Educator
Several role models in my life were educators, including paternal ancestors, my own parents, religious group leaders, and various mentors throughout my childhood. I was the typical nerd that always loved school, especially high school marching band and theatre.  Reading was the first stepping stone to my chosen career, and it was Math/Science that taught me it is not whether you get the great grades is what you have learned in the process.
Favorite Places in Caldwell County
One of my best friends and former Media Assistant works at the Caldwell County Public Library, so that's my favorite place!
Enjoying my remodeled Media Center thanks to Coach Minton, OG Minton, Ms. Seagle, Mrs. Wienbrock, and Mrs. Causby!
