Arrrrrr, avast ye mateys. You are now a member of the Parham & Wilcox Pirate Crew. We have plans to be the best team of all the 8th grade teams and we can only be the best if you are doing your part. So come aboard and get ready to sail the high seas of learning. But be warned, if you're not careful you might have some fun while you're at it, arrrrrr.
I do not give an overwhelming amount of homework, but when it is necessary I expect it to be done and turned in when it is due. The rule of thumb is, "It's due when it's due."
Hello! My name is Mr. Wilcox and I am delighted to be teaching your student 8th grade Language Arts. I hope to help make their last year here at HMS the best yet. A little about me, well, I have a wonderful wife named Linda and a beautiful daughter named Amberlin. I am a graduate of ASU (Go Mountaineers!). I expect big things out of your student child only because they can do big things. I hope we all have a great year. Feel free to email me if you ever have questions or comments.
Be on time.
Have your work ready when it is due (remember, it is due when it is due).
Follow all school rules. Do Right!
Students will need a few things to help them have success in class.
Loose leaf paper in a 3 ring binder or several composition books.
Other needs include:
pencil and / or pen (black or blue ink only),
two (2) highlighters,
Headphones or ear buds,
positive and eager attitude,
willingness to learn,
co-operative spirit and
the ability to follow the rules.
You need to bring all of this to class with you every day.
A donation of spray disinfectant, Kleenex, paper towels, hand sanitizer, or classroom cleaning supplies is always appreciated and welcome. Your kids are the ones who benefit from your generosity. Thank you in advance for your kindness and considerations.
Language ArtsReading will be front and center in our class this year as we participate in the county AR program. We will have in-class novels that we will read and students will be required to read independently also.
If you have not signed up for my REMIND program please do so. It is a great way to keep up with what is going on in class and know what is due as far as classwork and tests go. Starting off the year right will be very rewarding for students, so don't be lazy. Bad habits make bad grades.
