Dawn Dellinger

I began my teaching career with middle school chorus at Granite Falls Middle School in 1995 and taught there for 2 years.  I decided to move to Sawmills Elementary School in 1998 to teach elementary school music.  I am glad to still serve as the music teacher here.  I received a Bachelor of Music Education Degree from Lenoir-Rhyne University and acquired my Master of Music Education Degree from Appalachian State University.  I am certified in Orff-Schulwerk Level III and have an extended class certification.  I firmly believe that every child should receive an education in music.  The benefits of a good music program extend to far more than solely musical ability.  It includes collaboration, problem-solving, evaluating, focusing and reflecting.  Music programs incorporate Math, Science, Social Studies and Reading concepts.  Even more important than these aspects, a music education provides students with the opportunity to create and be a part of something beautiful in our world regardless of physical, mental, economic or cultural limitations.  It is my purpose to deliver the best possible music education to each child that enters my classroom.
