Degrees and Certifications:
This year is my first year starting my official teaching career. I began my educational journey at Mars Hill University and graduated in May of 2023. I received my degree in music education and I also minored in psychology. I completed my student teaching in the 2022-2023 school year under Cara Henry in Buncombe county. I was hired in July this year to be Gamewell elementary schools' new music specialist.
"We as music educators teach people, through music" - Dr. J.T. Womack . This quote was said by my wind symphony professor, Dr. J.T. Womack when he arrived at Mars Hill University. This quote means that even though focusing on the fundamentals and curriculum of music is important, music educators teach so much more than just music. We teach the person. No matter what, every student is met where they are and we use music as a tool for a greater goal.
I credit my decision to become a music teacher to my very own elementary school music teacher, Michelle Trivette. She inspired me to be my best musical self. She gave me so many fun opportunities, like being her helper during class, letting me be a part of the 5th grade honors chorus and showing me how fun music can be. Later in my education, I had her husband, Daniele Trivette, who was my high school band director. He encouraged me to step out of my comfort zone and give music a shot.
My favorite places in Caldwell county would have to be the area right before the town of Blowing Rock. I live in Boone, so I drive down the mountain every morning. Seeing the mountains every morning at sunrise makes my day.
