Lifelong resident of Caldwell County. Graduated from Lenoir High School in 1977. Graduated from Western Carolina University in 1982 with a bachelor degree in Business Administration. Managed a textile company from 1982 - 1997. Teacher certification program in Career Technical Education (CTE) at Appalachian State University (ASU) from 1997-1998. Started teaching at Hudson Middle School in August 1998. Recieved National Board Certification in CTE in 2006 (re-newed in 2016) and Master's Degree in Middle Grades Education from ASU in 2009.
