  • What is the Hybrid Instruction Model (in-person instruction + remote) for the 2020-2021 school year?

    Students in grades 2-12 will attend school each week in either group A on Monday and Tuesday or group B on Thursday and Friday with three remote learning days.

  • How do I know my assigned group?

  • What about students in grades K-1?

  • Will PreK classes be available?

    The PreK program is managed through the NC Department of Health and Human Services and subject to different guidelines. PreK classes will operate Monday through Friday.  Parents whose children are enrolled in PreK will receive notification directly from the PreK Department with detailed information.

  • What will my child’s schedule consist of during in-person and remote instruction?

    Movement from classroom to classroom will be significantly minimized in grades K-8. At the high school level, students’ schedules consist of four periods of instruction. Teacher, student, and parent expectations are posted online at https://bit.ly/2ZZNhDD

  • What is the social emotional learning segment that is included in the schedule?

    Each school’s school counselor(s) will have recorded content that is posted for students and in remote learning on the days they are not at school. Topics may range from being organized, a mindfulness moment, coping with stress, study skills, and more. The intent of this segment is to help students feel connected to school and aware of how to access school resources on the days that they are not physically in the classroom.

  • What safety protocols will be followed?

    Safety protocols as defined by the NC Department of Health and Human Services and instituted by the NC Department of Public Instruction will be followed as outlined in the NC Public Health Toolkit (K-12) posted online at https://bit.ly/3004m0w to include health screenings prior to entry into the facilities; face coverings for all individuals; cleaning protocol in classrooms and buildings; 6-ft social distancing and handwashing (signage and hand sanitizer stations throughout the facility); and limited gatherings of students - field trips, assemblies, etc.

  • Will schools provide face masks?

    Yes. Through state and federal grant funding, each student will receive washable face masks. Parents may also provide face masks that meet state standards. (See NC Health Toolkit (K-12) Face masks will adhere to current dress code policies. For children with physical or emotional impairments that may preclude them from wearing standardized face masks, parents should contact the Exceptional Children’s department for modifications at 828.728.8407

  • Will bus transportation be provided?

    Yes, the school district will continue to provide free bus transportation to and from school to students enrolled in their attendance school through the Hybrid Instruction program. If parents elect to use this mode of transportation, please ensure the school is aware of your intent. All state safety protocols will be observed: health screening before boarding, face coverings for each student, and social distancing by seating one student per seat unless they are of the same family or household. Bus schedules will be communicated to parents prior to August 17.

  • Will Child Nutrition continue to provide meals?

    Yes. The Child Nutrition staff will continue to provide breakfast and lunch meals on a daily basis: Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Friday. Movement to and from the cafeteria will be significantly minimized. Lunch meals will be delivered to students in grades K-1. Students in grades 2-12 will pick up their lunch meals exercising 6-ft social distancing and return to their respective classroom to eat lunch. Breakfast meals will be provided on rolling carts throughout the school building in grades K-8. High school students will go to the cafeteria for breakfast meals where all safety protocols are followed. Parents are encouraged to complete the free and reduced meal application at https://www.lunchapplication.com/ if family income levels have changed or for any new or entering students.

  • Will the Drive-Thru food distribution continue?

    For qualifying families who have opted for full remote learning - Caldwell Connect, meals may be picked up at the following schools on Wednesdays from 11-1 pm and 4-6 pm:

    Gamewell Elementary

    Granite Falls Elementary

    Hudson Elementary

    Valmead Elementary

  • Will WrapAround be open?

    Yes. WrapAround, the licensed child care program, will operate and provide after school care (until 5:30 pm) at 13 schools Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, and Friday. Seven schools will have WrapAround open for care on full days Monday through Friday  (7:30 am to 5:30 pm). The current WrapAround schedule, rates, and site locations are posted on the WrapAround website at https://bit.ly/2WTjJ8O or caldwellschools.com. Families who had children enrolled in WrapAround on Friday, March 13, 2020, will be given the first opportunity for re-enrollment. Screen time limits will not apply for children on remote learning days.  Devices for that purpose should be brought to WrapAround and students will be given time to work on their assignments.

  • Are schools open on Wednesdays?

    Yes. Faculty and staff will be at school on Wednesdays to participate in a thorough cleaning of the facility; staff development and training; and office hours to assist students/parents with assignments.

  • Will electronic devices be provided to students?

    Chromebooks are available for students to check out and use during the school year. If these devices are needed, contact your school’s administrative office. There is a limited number of devices available for use.
