August, 2022

Dear Granite Falls Middle School Family:

The 2022- 2023 school year begins with a new media center, cafeteria and Career & Technical Education classrooms. We are hopeful that construction will be complete during the middle of the 2022 – 2023 school year. Please be patient with us. Hickory Construction is putting the final pieces together for the renovated 1935 building these last weeks of summer. The new soccer field is now seeded, but will not be usable for at least another school year. The gymnasium is complete and looks awesome. The auditorium will be completed this fall, and we are hopeful that the cafeteria furniture and lighting will be delivered and installed by October.

Since we will not have cafeteria furniture at the start of school, students will still eat meals in their classrooms. Meals are available for free and reduced prices for those who qualify. Applications are available online at https://www.lunchapplication.com. We highly encourage you to take advantage of this opportunity if your family needs this assistance. Breakfast will cost 1.50, and lunch will cost 2.90 if your child does not qualify for free or reduced pricing.

Sixth Grade floating orientation will occur on Tuesday, August 23rdh from 5:00 to 7:00 pm. Seventh and Eighth grade floating orientation will occur on Thursday, August 25th from 5:00 to 7:00 pm. Teachers will give parents a class syllabus that contains all information for their classes. Mrs. Kinley will have bus information ready as well. If you need bus transportation, please be prepared to give a complete home address and working number where you can be reached. This will make the process much smoother. Be aware that we continue to share our buses with Granite Falls Elementary School. The main entrance to the new school building is now located off of West Highland Avenue. Students will receive homeroom and schedule information during orientation.

Granite Falls Middle School wants every parent / guardian to have access to their child’s schedule, progress, and grades. If you have not created an account in PowerSchool Parent Portal please use the following hot link to request access: GFMS Parent Portal Access Request Link.

Please remember that school starts each day at 7:50 am. Students arriving after 7:50 am will need to report to the front office and will be coded as tardy. Students may be dropped off in the car rider line as early as 7:30 am each morning. Students may not enter the building until 7:30 am. We do not have staff available to monitor student safety until 7:30 am. Students who arrive to campus before 7:30 am each morning should remain in their vehicle until a staff member allows entrance to the school. School dismisses at 2:45 pm. Students should be picked up no later than 3:00 pm in the car rider line. Sixth grade students who are car riders are to be dropped off at the main entrance to GFMS. Seventh and eighth grade students are to be dropped off on the parallel street at the cafeteria / blue roof building drive way and enter the main building at the cafeteria entrance.

Under current Covid guidelines negative and positive Covid tests done at home will be accepted by Caldwell County Schools. At this time our students and staff have the option to wear a mask if they choose to do so. Students with symptoms of COVID-19, including fever, cough, sore throat, congestion, shortness of breath, fatigue, vomiting, diarrhea, and/or body aches should stay home. If your child is experiencing symptoms or tests positive, please notify the school and follow CCS isolation guidance. You will be notified by phone, email and/or TalkingPoints with information regarding potential COVID-19 exposure in the school environment, if applicable to your child. It is important to provide an active phone number and email so you will receive these notifications in a timely manner. If you have further questions, please reach out to our school nurse, Brittney Young, at byoung@caldwellschools.com.

See you Soon:

Chris Ackerman, Principal and Marcia Kinley, Assistant Principal
