Leaders of Game Club

One of the clubs currently offered at Caldwell Career Center Middle College is Game Club. It is a free and fun opportunity for students to relieve stress and get into the competitive spirit! In order to enforce the rules and keep the peace, the Game Club members have elected student leaders. Many of the students bring in many types of games each week and share their enthusiasm of gaming with everyone.

Allen Clark, President of the Club, brings the whole club together by arranging the meetings, the games, and objectives of the club. His goal for Game Club is to, “..make it a proper area for releasing stress after school as well as a place to make new friends. The club needs to be a safe area for everyone to enjoy so they can hang out and have fun.” Allen’s idea of making the club prosper is one of the reasons he is a great President of the club. Inaddition, there are some things Allen would like to work on improving about Game Club, such as, “We could have different event days with full competitions. But, it's up to the members to choose what would make the club more enjoyable.”

Mr. Roberts, the club sponsor, is accommodating with high expectations. His goals for the Game Club are, “As a teacher, to sit back and watch it evolve as a student led club, within certain behavior and conduct parameters”. This gives students the opportunity to work together more than they normally would in a teacher-lead club. Mr. Roberts likes that “...students genuinely seem to enjoy it and we have had almost no behavioral issues.” Mr. Roberts even competes in the game tournaments and plays chess against other students. In order to make Game Club more enjoyable, he wants to continue the student-led format and allow the club leaders and participants to define it.

Colby Burgin, a Game Club student leader, is a mellow, and relaxed person. You can never quite tell what he is thinking. Colby is a rather welcoming and open-minded person. His main goal for Game Club, is to “Create a safe atmosphere that people want to return to.” Colby enjoys Game Club because “There are a variety of games and activities, along with a growth in attendance.” To improve Game Club, “I would like to promote the idea of people from all grade levels to use good sportsmanship to create friendships as well as to better themselves.”
