CCS Helps to Serve those in Need during Challenging Times
The Caldwell County Schools Child Nutrition Department not only provides weekly curbside free meal packets to any child 0 to 18 but also assists with the distribution of the Farmers to Families Food Box Program, a partnership with the USDA and regional and local food distributors to ease the effects of the economic slowdown during COVID-19 when restaurants and food services were closed.
The food box is free to anyone and disbursed on Wednesdays at the designated Caldwell County Schools meal distributions sites from 11-1 pm and 4-6 pm at Gamewell Elementary, Granite Falls Elementary, Davenport A+ School, and Hudson Elementary.
“We were approached, and we found a way to provide this additional food resource for our families, employees and our community,” Superintendent Dr. Don Phipps said.
The Farmers to Families food boxes will be disbursed through the school district through the month of October. The box includes approximately 32 lbs. of produce, meat, and dairy.
Each week, school staff and volunteers distribute an average of 2,000 boxes.
