Career and Technical Education (CTE) expands its culinary arts program with the addition of a second food truck – the CTEatery Fresh & Fast #2– that becomes available to the public in October.

“Creating more work-based opportunities for our students is the inspiration for this addition,” said Libby Huff, CTE Director. “We now have two commercially licensed kitchens in our comprehensive high schools and two food trucks that will allow us to add course offerings and meet the increasing demand in enrollment and interest of our students.”

During the school year, students will work in alternating teams to fill necessary roles in managing the food truck. Students enrolled in the advanced CTE culinary classes will prep and prepare food at West Caldwell and South Caldwell High School in the commercially licensed kitchen space. CTE administrators will coordinate the scheduling and family and consumer science teachers Amanda Beane, South Caldwell High School and Debra Hadley, the licensed instructional supervisor, incorporate the work-based learning opportunities into the culinary pathway at the school level.

CTE plans to use the food trucks during special events and select days of the week. The primary menu items include tacos and Cuban sandwiches on truck #2, hamburgers, hotdogs, cheeseburgers and sides. Both trucks will offer homemade desserts.

Caldwell County Schools is the first in the state to operate more than one food truck through its CTE program, which ranks number one in the state for percent of credentials earned based on CTE enrollment.
