SAT word of the day is overwrought (OH vur rot). The meaning of overwrought is overexcited, agitated, riled, greatly disturbed, nervous. Example: Sam was overwrought about the increase in college tuition, since his scholarship had not increased.

Quiz Bowl will practice after school Monday October 21.

ROTC Students, please note the after school practice schedule for this week:

  • Monday-OT practice 3-4:30
  • Tuesday- Drill practice 3-4:30 & Flag Ceremony 4:30-5 
  • Wednesday- Rifle practice 3-4:30 & JLab 3-4
  • Thursday-Drill practice 3-4:30
  • Friday- JLab 3-4:30 & OT practice 3-4:30 

The ROTC Blood Drive will be held Tuesday, October 22.

Students, your $10 class dues need to be paid to homeroom teachers by Oct. 31

This week is Red Ribbon Week and College Application Week. Having a goal and working toward it is a wonderful way to deal with stress in life. 

You have ONE LIFE….so let’s make ONE PLAN…..What do you plan to do after high school?  Military, Career, College?  

Today, you will get information about joining the military and have the opportunity to speak to many recruiters during lunches..  If you are an 11th or 12th grader, you can sign up TODAY to take the ASVAB at West on Oct 29.  

Get your Red Ribbon and wear it ALL week to remind everyone to MAKE A PLAN for Life After High School.

All HOSA Members please download the Gmail app on your phones.  All club communications will be sent to your student email accounts. HOSA dues of $25.00 and due Friday, October 25th. The HOSA club will meet after school on Wednesday, October 23rd, at 3:00pm.  The meeting will last approximately 30 - 45 minutes. HOSA members are invited to a meet and greet “Pumpkin Painting” activity on Tuesday, October 29th, in room 217 from 3pm – 5pm.  Cost is $5.00 (for a pumpkin). Please turn money in by Friday, October 25th.

Any 16-year-old student who signed up to give blood must have a permission form signed by a parent or guardian.  You can turn the form in to ROTC or bring it with you during your scheduled donation time.  If you need a form, come to ROTC or pick one up at the blood drive lunch table today.

1st load bus riders cannot ride 2nd load. This is the second warning, so any 1st load bus rider staying on for 2nd load will be written up.

FFA pumpkin carving is this Wednesday after school! Those FFA members wanting to participate need to bring Ms. Adams their $3 before Wednesday! 

All students who drive - the student parking lot needs to be cleared by 3:10 in the afternoon. Tickets will be issued for students that have not left the lot by 3:10, which will affect prom and tickets to graduation.

Beta club members who plan to attend the district convention tomorrow Tue, Oct 22, must turn in your field trip form to Mrs. Hatton or you will not be able to go.  Meet in the cafeteria tomorrow at 8:15 to leave for the field trip.  Check your email for more information

Students who signed up to help with the Haunted Trail at Collettsville this Friday, October 25 please check your email for updates from Mrs. Hatton 

Any student who has not paid their AFS $10 club dues to Mr. Smith by this Wednesday, October 23rd will be dropped from the roster. Also, those who are members and have not turned in their application form need to do so this week ASAP.

SENIOR INFORMATION:

Seniors, College Application Week starts this coming Monday. Please make sure to have your CFNC accounts set up so you can start applying to colleges. A good tip is to start on applications NOW and submit for FREE during College Application Week. On Wednesday, October 23rd, it will be College Application Day and you will have a chance to miss one class period to work on college applications in the media center. Ms. Vargas will be sending out more info soon.

 SPORTS:

Congratulations to our Varsity football team on their win against Fred T. Foard at Friday night’s Homecoming game!! The final score was 14 to 13. Way to go, Warriors!

Soccer plays at home against East Burke. Come out and support your Warriors!!

Any girl interested in playing basketball needs to see Coach Mangum this week.  Also, there will be workouts for anyone that is wanting to play basketball Wednesday and Thursday 3:15-4:45.  Must have physical and concussion form turned in.

Track workouts will be held Tuesday and Thursday this week. Meet in Coach Bowman's room.
