March is Red Cross Month

SAT word of the day is obdurate (AHB dyoo rit).  The meaning of obdurate is callous, headstrong, stubborn, and insensitive.  Example: The teacher’s obdurate refusal to change the grade made the athlete ineligible to play in the championship game.

This is National Cheerleading week. Thanks to all those that cheer for our WCHS teams.

STUDENT INFORMATION:

Attention AFS members, please vote in the poll for our possible March 13th field trip. Also, those going on the short term exchange to Wisconsin, check your school email this week for updates.

Great opportunity for those students interested in the medical/health field!! Camp Med 2020 Summer Program the week of June 8-12, 2020.  Interested students please see Mrs. Pope - office located in the shop area on 2nd floor.  Applicatiation due on March 27th

On Friday March 13th pie your favorite teachers during your lunch for Pi Day. Tickets go on sale during lunches starting Monday for $1. You can pay $1 to get 2 pies to throw. Support Mu Alpha Theta raise money for scholarships.

SENIOR INFORMATION:

Ellevation Education Scholarship Program has established a scholarship program to assist students who plan to continue their education in college or vocational school programs. Applicants must:

  • High school seniors who have been enrolled as an English Language Learner (ELL) at some point during their K-12 education.
  • Plan to enroll in full-time undergraduate study at an accredited two-year or four-year college, university, or vocational-technical school for the entire upcoming academic year. Deadline to apply: March 16, 2020 3:00 pm. See Ms. Houston for more information.

SPORTS:

Congratulations to our ladies JV and Varsity softball team and Coach Priode, Coach Wittenberg, and Coach Herman on their thrilling victories yesterday over Watauga. Both teams battled back to get the wins. The Varsity softball team was down 2-7 going into the bottom of the 5th inning. They fought and battled back to 6-7. Bases loaded and Kylie Reid hits a walk off grand slam to win the game 10-7. Wow! Great win!

Yesterday in Taylorsville the West Caldwell men’s golf team defeated Alexander Central by 13 stokes, 158-171. The Warriors were led by Jr. Lexton Ford who fired a 3 under, 33. Lexton was medalist for the 9 hole match. The match was held at Brushy Mountain Golf Club. The Warriors open the conference season at Hampton Heights on Monday

The track meet scheduled for today fat Bunker HIll has been postponed to next Monday, March 9.

Womens Soccer will play at Bandy’s. Game time 5:30pm.
