Caldwell County Board of Education Chairman Darrell Pennell has been elected as a Board of Director for a two-year term to the North Carolina School Boards Association (NCSBA).
“I am very appreciative to our local Board for nominating me and to the members of the NCSBA for this opportunity to serve,” said Pennell. “I feel confident it will be a great learning experience, and I am humbled to represent all members of the organization by providing support and guidance as needed, while gaining a statewide perspective that can be used effectively in Caldwell County.”
Pennell was nominated by the Caldwell County Board of Education and after submitting a comprehensive application, he was elected to the NCSBA Board of Directors during the Delegate Assembly at the Annual Conference.
As a retired educator with 33 years of teaching in the classroom, Pennell was first appointed to the Caldwell County Board of Education in 2010, then elected to the Board in that same year and has been unanimously elected to serve as Chairman of the Board of Education since 2011.
Pennell will be part of the complex leadership role of NCSBA, as he serves on the 27-member Board of Directors that governs the organization. NCSBA is a professional, member-driven association that represents local boards of education in North Carolina in providing a sophisticated level of advocacy and policy analysis on behalf of public education.
