Advanced masonry students at Hibriten, South Caldwell and West Caldwell High School are part of Caldwell County's history as they were acknowledged as being the first students nationwide to lay the brickwork for the Charters of Freedom display.
“Our schools take great pride in building a lasting foundation that will hold these treasured, historical documents,” said Superintendent Dr. Donald Phipps. ”This remarkable display will be revisited many times by our students and teachers as they learn about government, local history, and our Founding Fathers.”
The bricked veneer walls built by Caldwell County masonry students will hold the bronze Charters of Freedom, a display of the nation’s founding documents: The Declaration of Independence, the United States Constitution, and the Bill of Rights. The display is in downtown Lenoir beside the courthouse.
The Charters of Freedom is promoted by the Foundation Forward, Inc., an educational not-for-profit organization. Since 2014, the Foundation Forward has completed 20 projects, some as far away as Carson City, NV. Caldwell County Charters of Freedom display is the 21st freedom display to be built in the USA.
